The South Hampton Roads chapter of Habitat for Humanity has been helping homeowners since its beginning in 1988. Along with the physical work to make progress on this project, InMotion Hosting has donated $3,500 to the funding of materials for the build. InMotion Hosting is intentional in our efforts to create an environment and opportunities that supports the growth and development of our team members. We feel so strongly about our dedication to improvement that we included it in our Core Values. A few of the programs that we offer to specifically focus on professional development are Career Coachings, our Peer Mentor programs, Walk-a-Day shadowing opportunities, and Professional Development funds.

Career Coaching

Our Human Resources Department offers Career Coaching meetings with our team members to discuss possible career paths and interests within the company. Together with department leaders, HR has compiled skill sets required for different roles and resources specific to their  teams. Team members meet to discuss roles that they may be interested in, develop action items based on skills they can improve in, and collect resources available to help them work towards their goals.

Mentor Programs

Both our Peer Mentor and Great Place To Start (G.P.S.) programs operate with the goal of promoting peer-to-peer relationships that help progress professional skills and personal career goals. The Great Place To Start (G.P.S.) program provides an opportunity for new team members to expand their internal network by pairing up with more tenured team members. This provides an additional resource outside of their current department to help them get acclimated to IMH as well as provide a point of contact for guidance and questions. This program runs concurrently with their onboarding led by leadership and any department specific peer-led training.

In the Peer Mentor program, Mentors and Mentees are paired up based on the goal of the Mentee and the skill sets of the Mentor. They work together to determine goals and action plans for a period of 6 months. After the 6 month period, a mentorship often continues outside of the formal program. 

One of our participants, Justin M., Tier 1 Technical Support Representative had this to say about the Peer Mentor program: 

“The program is excellent because if you have a drive, if you want to get better with your job, it’s the perfect opportunity ….You’re talking to someone that has had a lot of experience and has gone through what you’re going through and has information for you that you’d probably have to learn the hard way. I think if you’re trying to better yourself, it’s the way to go!”

Walk-a-Day Program

We encourage team members to “Walk-a-Day” with an individual, or an entire department in some cases, to learn more about what other groups do on a regular basis and understand if that is a career path they want to take. During this 4 hour shadow period, team members will learn about different roles, what their responsibilities are, and how they operate within the company.

Professional Development Funds

While participating in any of these programs, our team members can also take advantage of the Professional Development funds available to them. Team members can receive reimbursement for things such as tuition, books, fees, professional memberships, and certifications that relate either to their current position or one that they may be interested in within the company. 

In addition to these programs highlighted, we’re proud to offer several others focused on professional development, peer-led engagement, and leadership skills development.  No matter how IMH team members choose to invest in themselves, IMH is committed to supporting that growth with opportunities for professional development! This spring, InMotion Hosting was excited to continue our partnership with our favorite cookie suppliers for a local Girl Scouts Code-a-Thon. We were able to host badge events for Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes. Our younger groups met all requirements for the Coding for Good badge while the older girls fulfilled the requirements for the Cybersecurity Basics badge. 

In total, we had 22 girls visit our Virginia Beach office. Our volunteers from InMotion Hosting led the discussion about trailblazing women in tech, coding and cybersecurity fundamentals, the influence of AI technology, and even hosted some games all before capping off the event with pizza and snacks. 

For the third year in a row, we’re happy to cover the costs for these events, including the badges and custom patches for all participants. Investing in our future STEM leaders and making sure girls are empowered to claim their space in the industry will continue to be a priority as we develop more events in the future.

Thank you to our volunteering team members who helped organize and host the Girl Scouts Code-a-Thon and to the Girl Scouts of Colonial Coast for providing resources and marketing to make sure it reached whoever may have been interested in attending.

The Peninsula Community Foundation has been organizing groups and donors to give back on the second Tuesday of May since 2014. This year Give Local 757 is partnering with 192 local nonprofit organizations to raise funds. Last year, over $1.2 million was raised by 6,000 donors! There is still time to donate and contribute to this year’s goals. You can see more at giveloal757.org. We are happy to say that we helped contribute by supporting incredible organizations local to our largest office in Virginia Beach, VA.

InMotion Hosting donated $2,000 in total to four great organizations. We made contributions to ACCESS College Foundation to remove barriers students face in achieving higher education, Special Olympics of Virginia Beach to organize events for athletes to compete and build relationships and confidence in their abilities, Meals on Wheels of Chesapeake as they work to make food accessible to low income and low mobility individuals, and Smart Beginnings which helps to make sure children and their families are supported through their education and access to care. Each of these causes provides amazing opportunities, support, resources, and encouragement to the inhabitants of Hampton Roads every day.

True to the IMH-way, our team members and their friends and family Thrilled organizers by doing it all in record time. We had 22 volunteers who set up stations, packed 47 cases of food, and finished cleaning up in about 4 hours!

Did you know that approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S.? Blood donations are used for patients in need of surgery, cancer treatment and transfusions for blood loss from traumatic injuries. The Red Cross provides approximately 40% of our nation’s blood and blood cell components from its generous donors. Although it is estimated that 6.8 million people in the U.S. donate blood each year, that is only about 3% of those who are eligible to donate. Each donation has the potential to save up to 3 lives, so every person who donates really helps!

We are happy to say that we helped contribute to that amount by supporting incredible local organizations.

InMotion Hosting donated $2,000 total towards a handful of different causes. We made contributions to The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore to provide meals to those in need, Seton Youth Shelters as they provide a safe haven for children in Virginia Beach, Children’s Assistive Technology Service (C.A.T.S.) who provides transportation and assistive technology at no cost, and the Virginia Beach SPCA which shelters and finds homes for animals in need. Each of these causes provide amazing opportunities, support, resources, and encouragement to inhabitants of Hampton Roads every day.
